2016 December 19

Lipstick Disco’s 2016 Christmas musical advent calendar – we’ll be bringing a daily dose throughout December of 24 kick-ass women, who’ve been making and playing kick-ass music in 2016.

Back in July this year, I had the pleasure to DJ alongside rRoxymore, who we’ve selected as #19 of our advent – and I can wholeheartedly confirm, the Berlin-based French DJ certainly knows how to command a dancefloor. From her humble beginnings in the South of France, rRoxymore first began making music in a disused garage in the late 90’s, at the same time she began DJ-ing around Montpelier – her sound was  a fusion of organic Jazz and funk, with electronic grooves. Today her sets are an eclectic and dynamic journey, from Disco through to House and Techno.

Fastforward to 2016 and rRoxymore continues to display her diversity, with projects which take her outside of the box: In February she collaborated with the stylist Johanna Senyk, to create a soundtrack for the parade of the new collection of french brand Wanda Nylon, for Fashion week and Red Bull Studios Paris (you can hear the soundtrack HERE). From soundtrack to soundscape, she also dabbled with more atmospheric and experimental sound, for her “Where do we go from here” EP on London’s Videogamemusic released in July and can be demonstrated in her track ‘Safe (space)’ from the EP. Her second and most recent EP this year, ‘Organ Smith’ came out early November on Don’t Be Afraid and is a more traditional dancefloor affair, with three quirky acid / techno bangers.

Performance wise, rRoxymore continues to wow the dancefloor, both as a DJ and solo Live act. A busy schedule this year has taken her to; Mexico, Washington, London, Amsterdam, Norway, Switzerland, Miami + more, plus a heap of gigs in her hometown of Berlin, where she also continues her Berlin Community Radio residency. Guest mixes this year have also included BIS radio NYC, Dekmantal Radio alongside Shanti Celeste (who we featured as no. 11 in our advent back HERE) Rinse FM, Truants blog, and just recently a guest mix for Fader. There’s been no slowing down for her this year and we’re excited to see what she brings to 2017.

For today’s advent song, we selected ‘Organ Smith’ from her Organ Smith EP on Don’t Be Afraid.
